Creighton wins 2nd All-Star Game MVP

Joey Creighton and Dave Cain were the only pitchers to escape without an earned run.

Joey Creighton got the pitch he was expecting right away in the bottom of the first and won the game.

His three run homerun off John Deatrick put him, Seth Yoder, and Darnell Uhland up for good in the 2003 All-Star Game and gave him his second-straight MVP honor for the game. He won the award in the 2002 game after hitting a walk-off homerun in extra inning. He didn't wait long this time, hitting a lined shot off the first pitch he saw that cleared the bases.

"He's basically a power pitcher, and I was waiting for the fastball," said Joey, who got a nice fat one belt high. The three-run job followed a leadoff single from Yoder and a base on balls from Uhland.

Dave Cain went 2-5 with a HR off his regular season teammate, Darnell Uhland.

Dave Cain cut the lead to 3-1 in the top of the second when he took regular season teammate Darnell Uhland deep to right field. Darnell would get that run back in the bottom of the second when he picked up an opposite way single that scored one off Henning, another regular season teammate. As Scott Carmichael's replacement, Darnell played well, going 2-4 with two runs scored.

"I don't know why he missed it," said Darnell postgame, "but I'm honored to get a spot. Does it get any better than the All-Star Game?"

Joey and Dave both worked efficient third innings as no runs scored. In the top of the fourth however, terror struck for Seth Yoder. Dave led off the inning and absolutely hammered a pitch, but he hit it too hard, causing the ball to dent and thusly die in the air. Darnell caught it at the track in left-center. Yoder then walked Deatrick, and gave up a two-run homerun to Curtis that cut the lead to 4-3.

Darnell Uhland is now 2-0 in All-Star games.

He got Dave to flyout again, and then struck out John to end the game.

Dave, Joey, and Darnell were the only players to get two hits, as opposed to the Rookie Game, where no one had less than three hits. Dave Cain made what could very well be the first error of his career in the second inning. Don't be surprised if it's also the last. This was the first one-run game in All-Star Game history. Thanks to having six men who all know how to pitch (and don't waste time while doing so), the game breezed by at a mere 33 minutes, which is rare for a game with this much offense. Sure, 4-3 doesn't sound like a slugfest, but when he league is only used to 1-0 games going that quickly, it's considered a "slugfest."

Will pitching or hitting lead the way? Both teams are capable of holding their own (or even dominating) on either end. Check the stats to compare the two teams, and figure out for yourself who's going to take the 5th annual contest. As you can see, the numbers are pretty close. Go ahead, pull a Billy Beane. Which numbers do YOU find most important and the key to victory? We have no idea, although it is tempting to call Curtis, Dave, and John's name simply because they have more BOMBS!!

Joey Creighton tells us that experience will lead the way, and that the new guys don't have a chance in hell. Take a look.

Player/Celeb Picks!

Dave Cain has simply been terrorizing the opposition, and I don't see why Curtis Henning should stop putting up his scary stats. Deatrick himself looks frightening, and it's inevitable that Scott, Joey, and Seth will be horrified by their play and plagued with nightmares for weeks to come. -- Stephen King
It's the d-o-double-jizzle in the hizzle for shizzle. When my homebizzle Scottie Carmizzle said he done made the all-star gizzle, I said fo' shizzle?!?! Ain't no punks gon' beat Scottie C. when he's ballin' with the bizzle. Deatrick? Shizzle, that nizzle can sizzle on mizzle dizzle, you knizzle? What's my nizzle? -- Snoop Dogg
"Some people are using the "old vs. new" idea in regards to the AS Game. I disagree. I think it's more the "The Established vs. The Never Will Be's." And...uhh, the established team will win...4-1." -- Joey Creighton
The results are in!! When it comes to the 2003 All-Star Game, Dave Cain, Curtis Henning, and John Deatrick...you are NOT going to be victorious. Carmichael, Creighton, and Yoder...you ARE going to win the game. -- Maury Povich

The veterans will pitch their way to victory. They have a 24-5 experience advantage in terms of seasons played, which will be the deciding factor. Final Score: 24-5 -- Dean Evans

When I'm not busy holding my team back or playing like a total girl scout, I enjoy visiting wiffleball2k.com. Which is why they asked me to contribute with my pick for the 2003 All-Star Game. And i'm going to have to go with Henning, Cain, and Deatrick. Carmichael and Creighton are both choke-artists who can't come through in the big game. I should know what THOSE guys look like. -- Chris Webber
Road Warriors with Deatrick over Horsemen with Carmichael 8-6. A tired Curtis and Dave still
carry team to victory. Well played game, that will go to the last inning. Similar to last year, but more offensive fireworks. The game ends up going into extra innings and as Joey warms up to pitch the bottom of the inning, members of the KGJ pull up and attack Joey's left arm with a foam bat. Later, they take a dip and have a burger with flies around it, as Joey mercilessly gives up a game winning bomb to Cain. -- Darnell Uhland
