Game 25
(Greg, Mike, Terry, Joey) vs. (Casey, Scott, Jeff M, Clint)

Casey started the scoring in the bottom of the third when he hit a leadoff homerun off Greg. Greg answered in the top of the second when he took the first pitch he saw from Carmichael over the center-field wall to tie it up at one. Joey added a two-run shot off Scott after Terry walked to make it 3-1, and Terry would add a solo shot in the fourth to make it 4-1. In the bottom of the fourth however Scott took Joey yard to cut the lead to 4-2. Then, in the bottom of the fifth, Casey hit a two run shot to tie the game up at four and send the game into extra frames. With rookie Mike Walsh on the mound in the bottom of the sixth, the veterans singled twice, walked, and then singled home the winning run. Jeff Morrison did the honors with an opposite way single. Final Score: 5-4.

Game 26
(Mickey, Mike, Scott, Clint) vs. (Derek, Jeff, Eric, Casey)

On paper this game was somewhat intriguing in that one team had Derek, Jeff M, and Eric, the three worst ERA's in the league (of those with enough IP's to qualify). Would this be on offensive assault, or would a miracle take place? Derek got through his inning easily, surrenduring only an opposite-way single to Mike Walsh. Against Mickey they manufactured a run in the bottom of the inning, when Casey singled home Jeff, who had reached via base on balls. Jeff then worked a quick 1-2-3 inning in the second to keep the miracle alive. After being shut out in the bottom of the second, Eric took the mound in the top of the third, and promptly...got rocked. Mickey Kendall took Eric yard twice in the inning as his team scored five runs. Mickey got all five RBI's. Derek, Jeff, Eric, and Casey would again manufacture another run in the bottom of the inning, thanks to three singles off Scott, but that would be their final run of the game as the miracle died, thanks to some inept pitching from Eric. Final Score: 5-2.
Game rating: **1/2 (Watching guys have to hustle it out, rounding third on singles in an atempt to score, is awesome to see, and this game saw it twice. Inspiring pitching from Derek and Jeff as well, but to no avail.)
Key Performances:
Mickey Kendall: 3-6, 2 HR's, 5 RBI's
Derek Byrd: 2 IP's, 1 H, 0 ER's

Game 27
(Joey, Eric, Mickey, Derek) vs. (Clint, Terry, Scott, Greg)

Joey led the game off with a line drive homerun off Clint. After a double by Mickey, Derek followed it up with a two-run shot to make it 3-0. Eric, one of the pitchingquestion marks for his team, was able to get out of a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the second, and Derek, owner of the league's largest ERA, worked a 1-2-3 fourth inning for his team. He also added another solo shot, his 12th of the year, as insurance for the win. Final Score: 4-0.
Game rating: ** (Quick and painless, but otherwise boring)

Game 28
(Jeff M, Mickey) vs. (Clint, Greg)

As the heat peaked and interest dropped, the final game of the day was only a two on two affair, reminiscent of 1998, where two on two games were more frequent. Both Jeff Morrison and Clint worked their respective inning without giving up a run to start the game. Greg got through the top of the second, but not before giving up three consecutive singles to Jeff Morrison. Jeff's teammate however was not up to the challenge and struck out, lined out, then lined out again, to end the inning with the base juiced. Greg then took Mickey yard in the bottom of the inning for a three run shot. Clint immediately followed with a high and deep drive to left center to make the score 4-0. Jeff and Mickey would end the game going hitless in the last two innings as Clint and Greg pitched strong final innings. Final Score: 4-0.

Notes: What most people probably remember about this day was the 2-18 performance from Scott at the plate in what could possibly be the worst hitting performance of his storied career. The wind was swirling big-time today, blowing in at 20 mph during one pitch, and then blowing out at 20 mph the next pitch. No one really stood out as being dominent today, but cases could be made for Jeff Morrison, who went 8-19 and was literally hitting the ball wherever he wanted. By the final game, pitchers and fielders were having team meetings before every Jeff AB trying to devise plans as to WHERE they wanted to play Jeff, because the guy was hitting it all over the place. He was adjusting his swing so well to ensure that he hit the ball where the fielder was NOT nearly every time. Casey and Joey both matched double homerun days, as Casey still holds a one homerun lead over Joey. Derek Byrd also kept himself in the homerun race by hitting two of his own, giving him 12 on the year. Mike Walsh struggled from the plate, but did much better from the mound, establishing himself as a man with a top-notch breaking ball. Maybe not as great as Nate or James, but good. He'd prefer his bat was making a bit more noise however. Clint continued to be a workhorse, playing in all four games, in a desperate attempt to get as many AB's as possible before he has to leave Friday night. His final gameday will be that same Friday. He MAY come back in August for about a week, so his season might have one day left after the 23rd. And remember, this gameday on the 23rd is the final one before the All-Star Weekend.
