2001 Bi-Weekly Report (11-25-01)

In non-wiffleball news

Apologies to those who had to deal with us stating updates would be in a "day or two" only to get them after "five or six". I had to actually have a life on Thanksgiving and left town Friday and Saturday. Now, school starts again tomorrow, so there's my new excuse. Oh wait...non-wiffleball news, huh? Uhh...my apartment is currently very very cold.

Clint Wattenberg remains undefeated

Clint took on available comers at the Sharpie-Carolina Open in Chapel Hill over the weekend and yet again won the whole thing. This time the competition seemed a bit more strong as he only won the first match 9-2. He again pinned the second guy and got a forfeit win in the semifinals. In the finals he beat former All-American Chris Martin (from Virginia Tech) 5-2. Including the forfeit win, Clint now stands at 8-0 on the year.

Clint also states that his first real test is coming next weekend in the Las Vegas Open where he states he'll be possibly wrestling with the #2, 4, and 11 guy in the nation at 184. Clint currently estimates that he's ranked "about #20" in the nation, and won't move up very much (despite his undefeated mark) until he starts beating some ranked guys, no matter how bad he embarrases who he IS facing. This coming weekend is Clint's chance to show just what he can do on the mat. We at www.wiffleball2k.com wish him nothing but the absolute best.

December 9th to be second day of Winteball

Sunday, December 9th will be Day Two of our league's winter excursion...again, weather permitting. We are expected to have a few more rookies come out, as nearly everyone has at least one person they want to bring out. Therefore, we are even more hopeful that Mother Nature decides to just let us be for one day. It would be retarded for us to have like 6-7 rookies ready to come out for their first time only to have to raining or something.

Again, for any players I haven't spoken with in regards to the above date: SUNDAY, DECEMBER 9TH -- IF YOU KNOW OF ANYONE WHO MIGHT WANT TO GIVE IT A WHIRL, BRING THEM OUT BEFORE IT'S TOO LATE. The draft will be held in early 2002, and if certain possible rookies have not yet made it out, they will NOT be available for the draft. We are hoping to have 3-4 more gamedays before the draft, so let them know to get out as soon as possible. They are MORE than welcome.

Rookie Watch

--Cy Williams is the first and only rookie hopeful who has played. He played in one game, went 2-5, and gave up both earned runs in a game that ended in a 2-2 tie. He gave up a two-run shot to Terry, but he looks like a potential solid pitcher who simply needs to learn where not to pitch certain players. Especially players like Terry. Anyone who can throw strikes at will should probably wind up being a solid future player.

--Another player showed up but did not play. The guy was brought out by Dean Evans and promises that he'll be playing the next time he shows up. Hopefully that next time is December 9th.

News and Rumors

--For anyone who cares, and all fantasy winners who apply, construction of the Byrd Awards 2001 video got underway this past week. One category is complete, with numerous others in the developmental stage. Not all the categories from the 1999 version will be seen here, and there will be some new categories. Steve McLean and Lloyd Thompson have agreed to once again do the narration. The video is hoped to be done before December, but if that goal is not reached, then before December 9th, so it can be seen at the next gameday.

--Also hoped to be done by the next gameday is the 2002 calendar. Eric, Ian, Darnell...start spreading the word. We'll let you know the official prices soon, although nothing should be over $10.

--Go to the multimedia page and vote for the 2001 Play of the Year. Voting ends December 1st and for the first time in a while, we actually have a tight race of sorts! Well...as of now.

--Visit Clownprince.net if you're ever bored and sick of our not updating every day. There you'll find many KGJ players writing about whatever, and you'll find me critiquing websites. It's my first time ever, other than the lame, one-sentence "reviews" I do on our links page. Some of the stuff on that site is pretty entertaining though, so give it a look sometime. Now would be a decent time, in case you were wondering.

--What's the status of Derek Byrd? I don't know. Is Darnell keeping Luke? I don't know. I'll let you know when I do.

--Just another reminder of the draft order for the upcoming 2002 draft:

Round 1: Road Warriors, Y&R, Wiffolution 51, Horsemen, Holy Whites
Round 2: Same
Round 3: Holy Whites, Horsemen, Wiffolution 51, Y&R, Road Warriors

Keep in mind that not all teams will be drafting three players. For example, if Casey Sylvester decides to drop only Mickey Kendall, then he'll draft a player in the first round (pick #3), and will be skipped the next two rounds.

--Later, enjoy the site...please.
