Gameday Previews #4 (2002)

Sorry I missed the last gameday for the three of you who noticed. I was out surveying land for a possible excavation that might wind up being a future home for the league. Hahahaha...had you going there, huh? Actually, I was simply watching some Richard Gere movie that Saturday night and was like "Oh shit!" Instead of turning off the turd of a movie though and doing it, I eventually fell asleep. Good times.

Horsemen (6-3) vs. Holy Whites (5-4) (The Byrd House, doubleheader)

This will be the first time these two rivals take each other on, and it should be a fun series. They had a game scheduled earlier this season, which the Holy Whites had to forfeit due to lack of players. The Whites have been forced to foreit three games already this season, which is the main reason they are in third place. Take those forfeit away and they're 5-1 while leading the league in most percentage team categories. We know the deadly Carmichael will be there, but who else? Mike Walsh is pretty much an affirmative, assuming he doesn't reinjure his back. Ian Byrd? Kyle Archibald? We'll see.

The Horsemen will be looking to fielding a full team for the third consecutive gameday. It is probably the second-to-last gameday for Seth Yoder before he leaves for about 6 weeks in early June. It might even be the last. In any event, the Horsemen are coming off a bye week and should be fresh. Against the Whites though, they will need to have someone on the team stsrt producing runs other than Joey Creighton. And rookie John Deatrick (1.33 ERA) will finally get a taste of the most deadly offense in the league. Should be a good test for him.

Longballs (3-6) vs. Road Warriors (2-7) (The Sac, doubleheader)

These two teams did battle in a doubleheader at the last gameday, with each team picking up a win. However, most of the Road Warriors' runs came thanks to the pitching-inept Bob Banos, who will not likely be out anymore, mainly because captain James Vassar will childishly not bring out players on his team who aren't playing well...which kind of defeats the purpose of the league. As of now, only Joey Holt (9 HRs) and James (6 HRs) are pretty much definites. Derek Byrd is a probable, but no one knows his work schedule.

The Road Warriors are looking for some quick experience to help Chris Keefer (17.60 ERA) and Jeff Register (13.14 ERA) become more confident on the mound. Rookie Anthony Sanzone (6 HRs) isn't having many problems finding success in the league, but who knows if he'll be there. Darnell Uhland will be there for sure, and he'll bring with him his overall rank of #2 within the league with him. His hitting .328 and compiling a 2.35 ERA is one of the main reasons the Warriors even have two wins at all.

And now with the mini previews:

Horsemen vs. Road Warriors (Byrd House, 1 game)

One of the Warriors' two wins came against the Horsemen, thanks in part to a grandslam off Eric Christensen by Anthony Sanzone and some cold bats for the Horsemen. With Eric pitching, any opposing team has a chance. However, if both Register and Keefer are there, the Horsemen bats probably can't stay cold for long.

Longballs vs. Holy Whites (Sac, 1 game)

Scott Carmichael and Joey Holt are 1-2 in homeruns within the league, and probably still will be by the time this game gets going. Mike Walsh (33 HRs in 2001) should also have his first homerun of the season by the time this game gets going. Much of this game depends on just what the Whites' roster will look like at gametime. Two players who can change the whole dynamic of a game are simply unknowns in terms of whether they'll be there.

Once again Mother Nature is calling for rain. Will she once again say "just kidding," or will it be a wet day? She's also calling for winds up to 20 mph, which never really cooperates well with little white plastic balls. We'll keep our fingers crossed that the day remains playable because I really really really don't feel like rescheduling games.
