The Beginning of the End?

Many great empires, despite their immense political power and cultural influences, have fallen. Rome is one for example. And history has taught us that nothing can outlast time. As one of the foreseers of the new and great wiffle ball empire (wiffleball2k.com), I wonder: is this the beginning of the end for our great league? Although I believe the end will not come before this 2000 season, I have reason to believe that this season is truly the beginning of the end.

One indication of the nearing end would be the recent let down in performance from homerun God Scott Carmichael. Although his measly Winterball '99 performance could be seen as a fluke, I think it is the first sign of the beginning of the end. We will ultimately see at the completion of season 7 if the end is really prominent. If Carmichael turns his recent winterball let down into a season-long downfall, then our great league will surely suffer. I mean, ask yourself, "who can fill Carmichael's shoes?" Many have tried, and they've all come out short.

The second sign of the beginning of the end is Matt Holmberg. Arguably the best player in this league, Matt has incredible natural athletic ability that makes him fun to watch; however seeing much of him on the field has been difficult. Lately, it seems that he doesn't have the desire anymore. For whatever reasons, Matt is more likely nowadays to NOT show up for gamedays. If other payers develop such a disease, it will be difficult to keep the league's head above water. And eventually the end will come.

The only uncertainty is how exactly this league will finally end. When? How? These are the real questions. If you think you know the answer, please e-mail me. I'd be absolutely fascinated with your opinions.
