2000 Game Summaries

April 22th, 2000

Game 09 Final score: 8-2
(Joey C, Greg C, Derek B) vs. (Mark M, Jeff M, James)

First inning: Mark and Joey start with good pitching, but don't get used to this idea. At the end of the day 60 runs would be scored in only four games, completely the opposite of the first game day. Bottom of of the Second: Mark singles and Jeff hits into an embarrasing double play. Apparently, he didn't run to first, because he forgot that Mark was ghost running due to the car (Question: Why do eighty year olds have the priveledge to drive?) that was parked right on top of first base. Third: James sits three batters down. Bottom of third: Mark hits a homerun (up 1-0), Jeff doubles, Mark walks, Jeff walks, Mark walks (up 2-0), Jeff singles (3-0), James walks (4-0), and Mark hits a grand slam (up 8-0). Here is where the crapy pitching begins and won't stop untill we all go home. Fourth: Derek, a little fed up with his eight runs, takes a walk which results in one of two runs scored by Joey's HR off Mark (final 8-2).
Game rating: zero stars

Game 10 Final score: 15-2
(Scott C, James V, Bruce L, Derek B) vs. (Greg C, Josh B, Jeff M, Eric C)

Before the first pitch was thrown, the visitors swore they wouldn't let Jeff M continue his his winning streek that was currently 7-0. First inning: first at bat, Scott hits a homerun and the rest is history... (final 15-2)
Game rating: zero stars

Game 11 Final score: 7-4
(Derek B, Scott C, Josh B, Eric C) vs. (Mark M, James V, Jeff M, Greg C)

Let's skip to the second inning: Eric walks, Derek hits into fielder's choice, Scott-- you guessed it-- HR (up 2-0). Bottom of two: James singles, Jeff walks, Greg singles, and James hits a double (tied 2-2). Third: Scott hits a double and Eric hits a homerun off Jeff M (up 4-2). Bottom: Mark walks, James singles, Greg walks, Mark sacrifices to drive in a runner (down 4-3), James singles to tie the game, Jeff walks, Greg too for the lead, and Mark doubles (up 7-4). That's where the last runs are scored for the remainder of the game
Game rating: **3/4

Game 12 Final score: 15-7
(Scott C, Derek B, Eric C, Joey C) vs. (Mark M, Jeff M, Josh B, Greg C)

First: Mark hits homerun on the first pitch off Scott. Yes, Scott Carmichael gave up a run, but that's not all. Jeff follows up Mark with one of his own (up 0-2). The drive continues when Greg singles, Mark singles, Jeff walks, and Josh steps to the plate with bags loaded. Of all people, Josh, his first day of WB2K, smacks, most likely, the greatest hit of his career, a grand slam (up 6-0). Second: Scott's ERA is hurt. Naturally, he redeems himself the only way he knows how to, a homerun (down 6-1). But, the runs don't stop here for Jeff M: Eric singles, Joey HR (down 6-3), Scott doubles, and Eric doubles (down 6-4). Third: Derek walks, Joey singles, Scott HRs grabbing the lead 7-6, furthermore, Derek singles and Eric homers (up 9-6), moreover, Joey singles, Scott singles, Joey homers (up 13-6). Well, Josh suffers this inning, but he still has his grand slam to talk of. Bottom of third: Greg walks with two outs, Mark walks, and Jeff singles driving in Greg (down 13-7). That would be the last time they score. Meanwhile, Joey hits another HR and Eric too, in the remains of the game.

Game Day Summary for games 9-12
Players (# of games played): Derek (4), Jeff M (4), Greg (4), Eric (3), Scott (3), Mark (3), Josh (3), James (3), Joey (2), Bruce (1)
Total players: 10
Notes: As I mentioned earlier, the pitching performances were terrible. I can't believe how many walks there were. Above, in the game summaries, walks that result in a run are only noted, so you can count on more actually occuring. Bad defense! This was a good day for anyone hoping to increase their batting rating. However, it came at a cost for most people (even Carmichael) when they saw their pitching ratings sink. Rookie Josh Bartholomew showed his face today. He's played for many years in the Water Baseball League. In fact, last season he was the Cy Young Award winner. Unfortunately, he didn't break the trend. Weather wasn't the best: windy and partly cloudy. Some people might blame the wind for their lack of strong pitching, but I know of two guys who couldn't have felt better about it.
