It's Not Boring!

Before leaving after the 2001 season for the lush landscapes of Seattle, I was an eight-year veteran, one of the originals. I'm still an "original," but no longer am I one of "the three" who have been around for every season. There's only two of those guys left, and Sunday the 28th of July, they will once again add another chapter in their ongoing and possibly forever-lasting rivalry.

You probably know I'm talking about Scott Carmichael and Joey Creighton. At least I hope you do. These two have faced each other many times, will face each other many more times, blah blah blah. You've heard it all. So have I. So have they.

So what's one more time, eh?

Sunday marks the fourth annual All-Star Weekend for the league. Scott and Joey have made the All-Stars all four years. However, they've never been teammates, and it's not likely that they ever will be in the near future.

Truth be told, Scott and Joey rarely get to play together, and it seems that when they do, they're using someone else's equipment. I remember a couple times when they played together back in 1998 or 1999. Back then we'd decide teams as people showed up. We didn't have set teams. There was always the chance you'd either get to play WITH Scott and Joey (and pick up an easy win) or play AGAINST Scott and Joey and become so pissed off you'd punch concrete. When they played together, all I really remember are scores like 11-0, or 9-1, or something so ridiculously one-sided that the game wasn't all that fun. Dr. Rapp recently wrote about how good they become when they're together (and you thought they were good as solo artists). He's right. I also wonder at times if they're unbeatable...with ANY ball.

But lucky for the fans, we won't be seeing them hit back-to-back at the All-Star Game. If this were the case, you may as well stay home and wait for this site to load the information you already knew was coming: "Scott and Joey take the All-Stars, 19-2!"

No, Sunday we get what we've always been getting: another matchup between the two. You might think it's boring, and you might think it's played out, but you're wrong. The league couldn't ask to be in a better situation. I don't care if they never team up again. I like competition.
