Keith,
Matt Holmberg's friend, is a rookie in 2003, but should fare better
than nearly all of the 2002 rookie crop thanks mainly to pure baseball
talent. He also seems heavily enthusiastic about playing, which
is always a positive force when building talent in this league.
His bat will
go through some rocky initial games, but he'll get used to using
our zone and will begin to improve. Given enough ABs, he could easily
hit 15-20 homeruns. He stroke is fundamentally sound, and will help
carry him into the realm of "success." He may have to
quickly pick things up, as he's probably the strongest hitter of
his two other rookie teammates.
His arm is relatively
untested. He won't be walking many batters and could very well strike
out a solid share of hitters. He already knows what he's doing out
there, and will only get smarter. He might fall into the occasional
Holmberg trap of throwing the sporadic "joke pitch" but
should post respectable numbers throughout the season, assuming
he stays healthy.
Same story with
the fielding. Keith is also a middle-infielder by trade, so he's
already fielded his share of grounders and rolling balls to either
side. He'll do his job well enough to stick him in the field if
a struggling pitcher is on the hill. |
