Scouting Report:

Matt is the older brother of Pat Plummer (Road Warriors) and was the second overall pick in the 2003 draft. A collegiate baseball player, Matt should flourish when he's here. He's tall (6'4) and can throw with intimidating smoke. Currently, his bat seems competent enough to hold its own.

Matt's hitting could go one of two ways. He could quickly adapt to our zone and begin putting up very solid numbers, or he could stumble a bit out of the gate, slowly getting accustomed. Either way, it's pretty clear he WILL get accustomed to hitting, and when he does, he'll impress. He has arguably the most power of all the rookies. He might have problems with low pitches due to his height, but he has the fundamentals to do damage with balls left anywhere near his zone.

His arm should be his claim to fame. He throws with exceptional speed and has impressive accuracy. He came in announcing that he had an "unhittable" changeup, which to us is an oxymoron. When Eric Christensen took him yard during Winterball, he quickly decided to never throw it again. He might not learn as quickly as some due to his teammates not being the smartest pitchers themselves, but Matt should be able to teach himself enough to get by with good numbers.

Matt's fielding is really unknown, but if it's anything like his younger brother's, he'll be fine. The whole Plummer family seems to have been blessed with above average hand-eye coordination, which is all he really needs. Bottom line is (say it with me), he won't be a liability.
