Scouting Report:

Matt was brought in by Mike Walsh which is also a main reason he was drafted by the Holy Whites in the 2003 draft. Of course, only a couple weeks later he was traded to the Playerz for Tavis Beynon, another rookie. Not much is known about him as a player, but we were able to come up with a few things for his scouting report.

He's pretty much a straight pull hitter who has some pop. Homeruns off Eric and Scott in his only game during Winterball prove this. He can hit the curve, but is rather untested against fireballers. He did hit one off Scott, but it was a first-pitch curveball that Scott said he'd "never throw again to him." As most rookies do, he'll struggle out of the gate, finding his swing and learning the nuances of our huge strike zone.

His pitching looks competent enough. He won't win any awards at the end of the season, but he'll post respectable numbers. His arm strength/endurance is a question, but Holmberg and Carlson are studs and can throw two innings per game, allowing Matt rest. By the time his arm starts hurting, he should be close to being done for the day. Assuming he doesn't start walking every other batter and accumulating 45-pitch innings.

Same goes for his fielding. Simply put, he shouldn't be flubbing too many grounders, or misplaying too many flyballs. His teammates will have to teach him where to play certain hitters, and when.
