Whites--no, wait...Wiffolution--no wait...
Dr. Rapp
How
am I supposed to accurately predict what will happen
here? I'm loving the new look Wiffolution squad, the
same that went 9-3 to close the season and all of the
sudden play like they EXPECT to win.
But
then again, I've seen so many "Scott Carmichael
hitting the crap out of Wiffolution pitching" games
that it's hard to fall into their camp.
But
then again, I've seen Scott give up 15 homeruns this
season (14 more than last year!) and I've seen
Deatrick have some horrible innings from the mound,
so it's hard to fall into THEIR camp either.
But
then again, I've seen Jeff Morrison and Dean Evans mentally
exit stage right after a couple innings don't go their
way, so it's hard to pick them to make it all the way.
But
then again, it becomes infinitely easier to beat the
Whites when Deatrick goes 0-8 with 7 Ks (as he did in
the last regular season game of the year), so I can't
whole-heartedly get behind the Whites.
Matt
Plummer has been scorching from the plate recently,
but he's also been walking batters at nearly Evans'
rate, and he gave up 4 of the team's 6 ERs in their
8-6 win over the Whites. Can I really expect Morrison
to toss 1-2-3 innings every time out? Of course not,
so there goes my vote for Wiffolution.
However,
Scott has been roughed up a bit this year (only in comparison
to year's past for him), and the team that roughed him
up the most will be facing him this weekend. Wiffolution's
not afraid of Scott, which is half the battle. And if
they're hitting Scott, the Whites are as good as done.
So maybe Wiffolution CAN pull it out...
But
then...those three losses Wiffolution accepted at the
hands of the Whites. Thirteen to two. Nine to two. Twelve
to two. All it takes is one swing of the bat, and Wiffolution's
season can fall apart. When the Whites get rolling,
there are few who can stop them.
Then
again, against those three losses, the Whites have lost
to Wiffolution SIX times! And only one of those games
was without Carmichael (a game in which they were no-hit).
For those scoring at home, that's a 3-6 record against
Wiffolution, which is mathematically the same as 1-2,
which, from now on, is only a good enough record to
end their season.
Speaking
of ending seasons, Wiffolution has seen their last two
seasons end in this very round of the playoffs. Their
career record in the playoffs is 1-4. The Holy Whites
are 7-4. For those keeping score at home, that's six
more games the Whites have played (all wins) over Wiffolution,
which is (roughly) 24 more innings of experience.
Casey
Sylvester is Wiffolution's wild-card, and most would
call him a better talent than the Whites' wild-card,
Tavis Beynon. Both are about equal in hitting, but Casey
has loads more to offer from the mound. If both wild-cards
show up, Wiffolution picks up the (slight) advantage.
On
top of that, Taivs has only had one "good"
game, but below that, it was all thanks to Wiffolution
pitching, off whom he posted an impressive line of 7-10,
3 HRs, 5 RBIs, 2 IP, 1 ER, 4 Ks (and the W from the
mound).
Okay,
enough is enough. We can play this game all day long,
but I know you have better things to do (as do I). I've
thought about this all week, and all of the above-mentioned
points have permeated my mind, leaving me with a blank.
Wiffolution, Whites. Whites, Wiffolution. Wiffolution,
Whites. Whites, Wiffolution. Then I realized, it didn't
even matter.
Either
team is going to get their asses handed to them by the
Road Warriors in the finals.
