Opening Doubleheader
Holy Whites versus Playerz

Game 1
The 2001 champions and arguably the most loaded roster in the league started the game against the rookie duo of Matt Smith and John Robins. Neither Matt Holmberg nor Keith Carlson had shown up yet.

After Carmichael routinely struck out the side in the top of the first, Robins took the mound, and pulled off a 1-2-3 inning. He looked much better than he did in his "tryout," as he was keeping the ball down and throwing with increased velocity.

He was then able to take fellow rookie Tavis Beynon yard twice in the top of the second. Both homeruns were opposite way. Smith then got through the second with a run scored, and the Playerz had an official lead. Matt Holmberg then showed up halfway through the top of the third, but without Keith Carlson.

Mike Walsh and John Deatrick breezed through their innings, but the Whites, who looked lethargic all game, couldn't muster any offense on Holmberg (in the third) or Robins (fourth). They would end up being two-hit by the Playerz.

Final Score: 2-0, Playerz

Game 2
Holmberg now (wisely) set himself into the leadoff spot, giving him two IP rather than Robins. Robins was solid on the mound, but it's clear that Holmberg is better.

It didn't matter what lineup they had in the bottom of the first; Carmichael was on the mound and mowed them all down. He then led off the second with his first homerun of the year off Matt Smith. Tavis Beynon would hold the Playerz in the second.

Mike Walsh picked up his first hit of the year in the top of the third. John Deatrick followed with his first hit as well, and suddenly the Whites looked dangerous again. Scott walked, and Tavis struck out (out #2). Mike though would double down the first base line, scoring two.

He then threw his second shutout inning of the day in the bottom of the third. Holmberg and Deatrick would each pick up 1-2-3 innings, both striking out the side, in the fourth. Holmberg's was rather amusing, as he was talking trash to the Whites the entire inning, especially Carmichael. Deatrick's, however, closed the game for the Whites. Carmichael wouldn't spend too much time talking about Holmberg postgame, but did state that the 4-year vet "has his coming."

Final Score: 3-0, Holy Whites

Nitecap
Holy Whites versus Road Warriors

The Road Warriors made their way over after sweeping Wiffolution, and immediately probably wished they just stayed at The Sac.

Off Darnell Uhland, the Whites erupted for 5 runs, thanks mainly to Scott's 2nd and 3rd homeruns of the year. Tavis Beynon also picked up his first career homerun in the big inning.

The Warriors wouldn't die though. Off Tavis, the only Holy White to give up a run on the day, Darnell led off with a single. Pat Plummer walked, and Dave struck out. Curtis Henning doubled home a run, and Darnell followed with another single, scoring another. Tavis then bore down and got Pat and Dave to end the 2-run inning.

And that would be all the scoring in the game. Plummer got into a bit of a jam (bases loaded, one out), but got out of it by striking out Tavis and Mike.

Postgame, it was obvious both teams were happy with their opening day. Especially the Road Warriors, who have NEVER had a winning record. At least not to our knowledge. Carmichael claimed he would have liked a 3-0 day, but will take 2-1. As far as the lethargic nature of the team in Game 1, he stated some of his teammates were "out late" the night before, and included rumors of tequilla, but refused to elaborate.

Apparently John was exempt from the tequilla story, but he still claimed to have not gotten to bed until "roughly 5 am." Scott seemed pretty adament about implementing a "team curfew" for nights before gamedays.

Final Score: 5-2, Holy Whites
