Doubleheader Game
1 Still, Dean Evans' ability to find his way on base no matter the conditions gave Wiffolution the 2-0, Game 1 win. Matt Smith and John Robins were the only players to show for the Playerz on a day that featured a heavy downpour only an hour before the scheduled first pitch. Jeff Morrison and Evans were Wiffolution's only representatives as well. Matt struggled with control problems earlyas gametime temperature was probably only in the mid 40's. Dean singled and walked, and Morrison followed with a bases-loading walk. Dean singled in a run, and then took a run-scoring walk, giving Wiffolution the only two runs of the game as hitters had no success getting a rhythm going. Matt Smith managed to go 3-8, but all three hits were singles and all were scattered over the four innings of play. The Playerz never had a baserunner past first the entire game. Final Score: 2-0, Wiffolution Game
2 The wind picked up and homeruns were becoming a pipe dream as each team traded scoreless innings over the course of this marathon game. In the bottom of the eighth, Jeff Morrison led off with a flyout. Dean singled and was followed by a single from Jeff. Dean singled again, loading the bases, but Jeff struck out. With two outs, Dean lined a shot the other way, bringing in Wiffolution's first--and only--run of the game. Thanks to the weather though, it would prove enough, as the Playerz combined to go 4-28. Dean's numbers for the series (8-22) are remarkable, given the conditions. Final Score: 1-0, Wiffolution Nitecap Ian went 5-10, including 3-3 with 3 homeruns to start the game, as the Horsemen cruised to a 5-0 victory. Both Joey Creighton and Ian would homer in their first ABs of the game off Matt Smith. Joey would single in his next AB which was followed by Ian's second homer of the game. After Joey flied out, Ian would hit his third and final homerun of the game, putting the Horsemen up 5-0. The Playerz, long frustrated by the conditions that rendered them helpless with the bat, were no hit by the Horsemen duo. John Robins was 0-6 with 5 Ks in the game. He leads the league with 31 Ks, but should see those numbers drop as the weather warms up. Ian Byrd ended the day 8-16 with 5 homeruns, good for a tie for second in the league in homeruns. The Horsemen raised their team average to .384 with their 9-21 effort. Final Score: 5-0, Horsemen Boxscores
