Doubleheader Game
1 With two outs in the bottom of the fifth inning of a scoreless game, and men on first and second, Pat lined a double off Tavis Beynon, automatically bringing home the winning run. It ended a textbook pitcher's duel at the Byrd House, where the wind was blowing "steadily in" according to Dave Cain. The double was the only hit the Warriors would pick up in the game, but thanks to patience at the plate and incredible accuracy from the mound, they remained in the game. The Warriors picked up eight total walks from the Whites' pitchers, and in return walked no one. Three singles were all the baserunner they would allow as the power of the Whites was held in check. Thanks to the little mystery known as "daylight savings," both Carmichael and Deatrick arrived late to the Byrd House as the Whites squared off with the Road Warriors. Carmichael showed up in the top of the third, Deatrick in the top of the fourth. No White would comment on whether that played a factor in the Game 1 loss. Final Score: 1-0, Road Warriors Game
2 Off Tavis, Pat Plummer singled in the top of the second, which was immediately followed by a triple by Dave Cain. The triple was the first of the season for the league and the first of Cain's career. Joh Deatrick hit the first homerun of the day at the Byrd House in the bottom of the third off Pat Plummer, tying the game at one, but ruined the effort in the top of the fourth. He walked Curtis Henning to lead off the inning, and after getting Plummer on a ground out, he gave up a double to Cain which scored Curtis. Dave then rolled through the Whites' lineup in the bottom of the inning, giving the Warriors another impressive victory. Final Score: 2-1, Road Warriors Nitecap Stuck at the Byrd House in horrendous hitting conditions, the Warriors again found ways to win as they no-hit the Playerz in the nitecap. The game featured six players, four of which were rookies. By the end of the game, Curtis Henning was standing the tallest, both literally and figuratively. Curtis pitched two no-hit innings, striking out five, and hit the game-winning homerun in the bottom of the fifth inning. It was Curtis' only hit of the day, but it gave the Warriors their third win of the day, all of which came on their last ups. After four regulation innings, Dave Cain had picked up the only hit, a lone single in the third. After Holmberg walked Pat Plummer in the bottom of the fifth, Henning came up big. The loss grounded the Playerz, who were flying high after their great come-from-behind victory over the Horsemen at The Sac. The Warriors continued their trend of picking up baserunners the free way while offering no such passes. They walked only one batter on the day and picked up 12 free passes of their own. A week earlier, on opening day, they walked five batters while accepting 13 of their own. Their pitching K/BB ratio of 50/6 obliterates any other team. And on a totally unrelated note, they're 5-1. Final Score: 2-0, Holy Whites Boxscores
