Game Summaries
June 22nd, 2003
The Byrd House

Opening Doubleheader
Horsemen versus Holy Whites

Game 1
Mike Walsh sure picked a nice time to hit his first homerun of the season.

Walsh, who hit 33 homeruns back in 2001, connected in the top of the third for his first(!) homerun of the season, a solo job off Seth Yoder that ultimately won the game for the Whites as they one-hit the Horsemen and took Game 1, 1-0.

The Horsemen's one hit was a single by Joey off Scott with one out in the first inning. After that, they were handcuffed by both Carmichael and Walsh as the Byrd House once again played the part of hell in the batter's eyes.

Final Score: 1-0, Holy Whites

Game 2
They hit two homeruns off Scott Carmichael, but it still wasn't enough for the Horsemen as they dropped Game 2, 5-2.

Much of this could be attributed to Mike Walsh, who despite going 0-6, threw two more no-hit innings and lowered his ERA to 0.73. After the game, it was actually Walsh who led the league in ERA. Both Yoder and Carmichael gave up two runs in the game and saw their ERAs climb to 1.14 and 0.87, respectively.

Yoder led off the game with a deep shot off Scott to left, and one batter later, Joey connected with a lined shot that just escaped Walsh's lunging hand and landed in the right field grass.

Scott then got both runs back with a two-run shot off Yoder that tied the game up. One inning later he hit a three-run shot off Ian to put his team up 5-2, which wound up being the final score.

Final Score: 5-2, Holy Whites

Nitecap
Horsemen versus Playerz

After dropping two tight games to the Road Warriors, the Playerz took out their frustration on the Horsemen, picking up a convincing victory, 7-1.

Yoder and Smith posted duel shutout innings in the first, but the Playerz then went to town on Byrd. Smith hit a three run homerun that followed two walks to Bill Rozak. Bill then added a solo shot to his name, and just like that, they were up, 4-0.

The next inning, the Playerz posted six singles off Joey Creighton, which led to three more runs and the game was all but over.

Joey Creighton added a solo shot right down the right field line that "cut" the lead to 7-1, but that was the last hit his team would get as they found themselves on the losing end for all three games. Where's EC when you need him?

Final Score: 7-1, Playerz
