Opening Doubleheader
Horsemen versus Playerz

Game 1
After suffering his fourth concussion the weekend before, new Horsemen Ian Byrd sat out action Sunday as the Horsemen began their 2003 season. Keith Carlson again was absent for the Playerz, who suited all other players. Eric Christensen, who suffered a dislocated shoulder six weeks earlier, was cleared to play.

There was no scoring through one and a half innings, but Joey Creighton stopped all that with a towering homerun off John Robins that brought in two runs. Matt Holmberg then quickly struck back in the top of the third, taking Joey's offering deep to center field to cut the Horsemen lead to 2-1. The ball went an estimated 110 feet.

After Matt Smith tossed a shutout third inning, Seth Yoder worked the fourth without an earned run as the Horsemen picked up their first win of the season.

Game 2
The Horsemen kept rolling in Game 2. Off Matt Holmberg in the top of the first, Joey Creighton hit a two-run shot. After a Seth lineout, Eric hit his first homerun of the season, which was followed by another Creighton homerun. Seth then completed the trifecta, hitting his first homerun of the season. He then breezed through the bottom of the first, leaving the Horsemen on top, 5-0.

John Robins would go 1-2-3 in the second, and then the Playerz came to life. Robins walked, and Holmberg then ripped a two-out single. Robins singled, loading the bases just in time for Matt Smith's first homerun of the year, a grandslam to left-center. The Horsemen would piece together five singles in the third off Smith, but could only pick up one run thanks to baserunning miscues.

The Playerz kept hitting in the bottom of the third, roughing up Creighton. Smith hit a one-out solo shot, and Holmberg followed with a single. Robins would double, but Holmberg would be thrown out trying to score from first. Smith would single, putting runners on first and third, and Holmberg would make up for everything with a big three-run shot that put the Playerz up 8-6.

Holmberg then cruised through the fourth inning, securing the win.

Nitecap
Horsemen versus Holy Whites

Deatrick may claim to have no hard feelings toward his former team, but his play Sunday in the nitecap sure seemed to speak otherwise.

John hit two homeruns, a three-runner off Eric Christensen and a solo shot off Yoder as the Whites defeated the Horsemen.

Carmichael added a solo shot off Creighton in the third, and Creighton tacked on a solo shot off Walsh in the third. It was both players' fourth homerun of the season, which ties for the league lead.

John's first homerun of the game followed two consecutive two-out walks by Eric Christensen, who had been able to manage his BB totals until then. To contrast, the Whites walked no one, and despite only picking up two strikeouts, breezed to the victory.
