Doubleheader Game
1 With two outs in the bottom of the second, Darnell hit a go-ahead two-run homerun off Joey Creighton. With the wind swirling strongly but blowing in often, the bats were finding it difficult to combat the pitching. Creighton managed to go yard to left field off Curtis Henning in the top of the first inning, but other than that, the Horsemen, who were without Eric Christensen, could only scratch out three more hits, all singles. They put runners on first and third with only one out in the second inning. But they were caught trying to score (from third) on Seth's grounder. Ian then struck out to end the threat. Darnell's homerun followed a single by Dave Cain and was immediately followed by a single from Curtis. Pat Plummer then struck out to end the scoring. Final Score: 2-1, Road Warriors Game
2 Joey hit a solo walk-off homerun in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Horsemen the 1-0 win and give them the split against the Warriors. In all, there were only four hits in the game, two for each team. The wind wasn't doing all the work; the pitching was pretty impressive as well. Creighton picked up both hits for his team, the other being a single way back in the first inning. From then until the sixth, the Warriors only allowed one base-runner and essentially threw a no-hitter for 4.1 innings. Dave Cain almost won the game for the Warriors in the top of the fourth. With Seth Yoder on the mound, Dave quickly fell down 0-2. He reportedly told Darnell that he "had Yoder down" and was confident he would hammer the next strike. Yoder tossed a ball, then fired a strike, and Dave was right on. The shot went opposite way, but a gust of wind held what would have been a go-ahead homerun to just a flyout. Seth himself thought the ball was gone once he hit it. He ran back and caught the ball near the tracks. Joey then led off the bottom of the sixth with a deep shot to right field off Pat Plummer that could not be held in. Final Score: 1-0, Horsemen Nitecap For whatever reason, the hits were coming much more frequently in Game 3 as the two teams combined to bang out 14 hits. There were only 11 in the first two games. Wiffolution struck first. In the top of the second, Matt Plummer led off with a single off Ian Byrd. Dean Evans then went opposite-way at the right time as the ball got some wind on it and carried out of the park. Morrison then immediately jumped in with a homerun. His went opposite-way as well. Dean would then double and Jeff would single, but Ian would bear down and get out of the jam without anymore runs coming across the board. Ian then homered to lead off the bottom of the inning. Creighton would walk, and Yoder grounded into a fielder's choice. Ian singled, and Joey walked again, loading the bases. Seth would then ground out to second, but a run scored, cutting the lead to 3-2. Wiffolution would threaten again. They loaded the bases with only one out against Joey, and Jeff then had an inspiring AB, fouling off six two-strike pitches before finally succumbing. Dean would then strikeout as well, ending the threat. The Horsemen added another run in the bottom of the third. Joey led off with a double, and was moved to third on Yoder's single. Ian then grounded out to first, scoring Joey. Yoder cruised through the top of the fourth, going 1-2-3 and lowering his ERA to 0.80. Ian led off the bottom of the inning by striking out, but then Joey and Seth picked up back-back walks. Ian struck out again, but Joey rendered it meaningless with a GW HR to left field. Final Score: 6-3, Horsemen Boxscores
