Summaries Doubleheader Game
1 Bill took Matt Plummer deep with two outs in the bottom of the fourth for a trhee-run, game-ending shot. The Playerz were actually being no-hit with two outs in that inning, but Matt Smith broke it up with a single before Bill's blast ended the game. Wiffolution put the first runs on the board in the top of the third as Dean Evans and Jeff Morrison hit doubles that plated one. Matt Plummer started the fourth by striking out Matt Smith, and then walking Bill. He struck out Robins, gave up the single to Smith, and then the walk-off homerun. Final Score: 3-1, Playerz Game
2 Plummer hit a game-ending three-run shot himself in the bottom of the seventh as Wiffolution escaped the extra-inning affair and picked up the split. The game was one for the books though. Dean Evans staked Wiffolution to a 2-0 lead with a two-run shot off Matt Smith in the bottom of the first. Bill hit his second homerun of the day in the next inning off Morrison, cutting the lead to 2-1. Nothing would happen until the top of the fourth, when the Playerz came to bat against Plummer. Matt walked Bill to lead the inning off, a strategy Wiffolution was using liberally. He struck Robins out, and got Smith to pop out before allowing a double to Rozak, putting men on second and third. Robins then hit a routine grounder to Morrison, who fielded it cleanly and threw to Plummer for what would have been the game-ending out. However Plummer dropped the easy ball, allowing a runner in and the Playerz tied the game up, 2-2. Plummer then struck out Smith to end the inning and give Wiffolution a chance to win. Smith though didn't have that in his plans as he struck out the side. Wiffolution, after Dean's homerun in the first, would go 0 for their next 12 with eight strikeouts. The game was headed to extra innings. Jeff got through the top of the fifth, but so did Rozak in the bottom half. Jeff got out of a one-out bases loaded jam by striking out Robins and getting Smith to fly out. In the top of the sixth, Rozak took Evans deep to give the Playerz their first lead of the game. Plummer responded in the bottom half of the inning, leading off the inning with a solo job off Robins to re-tie the game. Coming into that AB, Matt was 0-11 with 5 Ks. Wiffolution would then load the bases with only one out, but Dean and Matt both struck out to keep the game rolling. Plummer got through the top of the seventh unharmed, and Morrison led off the bottom half of the seventh with a walk. Smith allowed a single to Dean, and then Plummer took the first pitch he saw deep to left to end the game. Final Score: 6-3, Wiffolution Nitecap It became apparent that Wiffolution's playoff chances would live or die with rookie Matt Plummer, and he hasn't let the door close yet. Matt hit another walk-off homerun in Wiffolution's third game, giving him two of that variety on the day, as well as one surrendured. The win kept Wiffolution mathematically in the playoff race, which comes to a close this coming Saturday. The game looked bleak for Wiffolution at first, who looked fatigue from their doubleheader with the Playerz, two emotional games that both ended with walk-off homeruns. Seth Yoder and Joey Creighton handled them easily from the mound in the first two innings, and Joey added a solo shot in the top of the second off Morrison to give the Horsemen the 1-0 lead at the halfway mark. Joey led off the top of the third with a double, and two outs later, hit what looked to be a two-run shot. However Matt Plummer made an absolutely incredible catch, getting very high in the air, catching the ball at his peak, and then landing flat on his back on the hot concrete in right-center. He was not injured on the play, although we've seen many others more hurt by a lot less than what he did just then. And just like in the movies, Plummer led off the next inning and did what he was supposed to do after a great play, jack a homerun. He picked up Wiffolution's first hit of the game with a game-tying solo shot off Ian Byrd. Neither team would score in the fourth as Yoder and Plummer exchanged 1-2-3 innings and we headed to extra innings...again. Morrison walked Ian to lead off the fifth, but got Yoder to fly out to deep left. He wouldn't be so lucky against Joey though, who took him deep to right for a two-run shot that put the Horsemen up 3-1. Dean led off the bottom of the fifth with a solo shot, cutting the lead to 3-2. Joey tried to bear down, but Plummer was too much, taking a curve at his ankles deep down the left field line to tie the game up. Morrison grounded out, and Evans struck out, but Plummer made sure another inning would not be scored as he took Joey deep to dead center to give Wiffolution another walk-off victory. It was the first time a team has been apart of three "walk-off" games in league history. Dean Evans called the gameday "the craziest (he's) ever been apart of." After the win, Wiffolution climbed to a game back of the Horsemen and 1.5 games back of the Holy Whites. Two of those three teams will make the playoffs, and all three teams will be playing this Saturday, the final regular season gameday. Final Score: 4-3, Wiffolution Boxscores
