Notes: Juan Lugo was a classmate of ours who loved to run (and was pretty great at it) but was pretty out of his element on The Sac. I give him props for coming out the few
times he did though while many players took him deep or struck him out (raised Mormon, he probably would have picked up a lot more PT had most of our gamedays not fallen on a Sunday). His offensive numbers compare to Jeff Morrison (who was still not that great in 1999 but
would go on to hit .300+ for the rest of his career), which is surprising, but his pitching numbers show why he was a candidate for "Worst Pitcher" on the 1999 Byrd Awards. Like most Mormons,
Juan was rarely visibly upset (aside from towards himself whenever Eric Christensen or Clint Wattenberg struck him out, which taking into account their non-existant pitching talent was totally understandable).
Sadly, Juan was killed in a car accident while driving home in early 2003. He was a freshman at Chico State, having just completed a two-year mission in Brazil. He was not at fault.
