Eric Christensen debuted as the baby of the league in 1999. Only 14 years old when he got
his first AB (he was 15 for most of the season), Eric faced the brunt of player humiliations
and disrespect with a admirable resolve and maturity. He was a terrible pitcher, setting the
standard for ineptitude that would never be matched by anyone who played more than one season,
and it was considered an act of God if Eric put the ball in play while batting (despite the
fact, his career batting numbers are really not that bad). On top of that, he faced a hazing
that would have driven away even the most dedicated player. But Eric was rewarded for his
league love by being drafted by the Horsemen in the last round of the 2001 draft.
The Horsemen proceeded to live or die with Eric, losing in the 2001 Finals while Eric
batted .088 (3-34) with an 8.57 ERA, winning the 2002 title while Eric sat out with injuries,
and missing the 2003 playoffs altogether when Eric gave up the game-winning homerun during the
last game of the regular season. But they wouldn't have had it any other way. To the Horsemen,
Eric was family, and he was defended every step of the way. A strong lover of the game and all
things involved, Eric would easily have accumulated more career ABs had he not been injured
for periods of seemingly every season.
